possibly other Brithers can tell me more about it?

This recently came across this up for auction, described as:

"Masonic, Edinburgh, Ye Corporation O'Squaremen, gold medalet, hammer, setsquare and symbols,

Presented to J Hogg JP Worthy Deacon 1950 and 1951, 9ct., 12g, with ribbon. Extremely fine."

Estimate: 80 GBP - 120 GBP.

Squareman's plates, plain edged and gold rim.

Bro Sherar’s billets are worth noting. Among his first is the outer design of the billet figuring the “squaring” of a man.
This design was a little elaborated on as the design for a Squareman’s plate.
The plates were used at the suppers and members could purchase them but stock ran out and war-time restrictions prevented
the stocks being replenished.
The first plate is the one referred to, plain edged and as can be seen the typeface is different to the second image where the
gold edging band has also been introduced.
The second plate was reproduced in the 1980's. (Many thanks to Auld Grand Worthy Deacon, Allan Barr, for this information.)
